The Well of Loneliness

Project Description
Drawing from the themes of social isolation, romance, and despair, this book intends to provide an unassuming but intentionally-designed item that best facilitates the relationship between the reader and the text. The Well of Loneliness was considered THE lesbian novel and for decades was the first source of Lesbianism in literature that young people could access, but similar to films released in the decades after its publication, The Well depicts its queer characters in a grim light in which they are considered inverts and are denied a happy ending. The last line of The Well on the back cover of the book illustrates this idea well: "Give us also the right to our existence!"
